Johnny Gill Comments on Twitter Diss Lawsuit

The former New Edition singer defends his right to speak freely on the Internet.

As we reported yesterday, Johnny Gill was sued for defamation over remarks he made on Twitter about the CEO of his record label. Today the former New Edition singer commented on the lawsuit and defended his comments, citing "freedom of speech."
The lawsuit, filed Thursday, August 11, in L.A. County Superior Court, claims that Gill defamed producer/executive Ira DeWitt, wife of St. Louis Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt, when he accused her of leaking a song from his new album and called her "deranged" in a series of Twitter of messages posted last week.
TMZ
caught up with the singer yesterday at LAX airport and asked him to speak on the lawsuit. He dismissed the charge that his tweets damaged DeWitt's character and argued that people shouldn't be liable for what they say on Twitter. Otherwise, "the courtrooms would be full with a bunch of Twitter people complaining about things people say every day," he said. "It's freedom of speech."
He say, she say—let's see what the court says.
