Florida Man's Mass Shooting Attempt Botched by Jammed Gun

Maybe hoping guns will jam isn’t the best gun control policy.

Lone wolf James Cameau intended to do some serious damage in Jacksonville, Fl., Monday when he brought a loaded gun to work.

The 34-year-old man, who started working at Jacksonville Granite in Orange Park less than a month ago, went home on his lunch break and returned with a semi-automatic handgun, reports the New York Daily News.

Cameau warned 11 co-workers he found at the back of building, “you better run,” before attempting to open fire. When his gun jammed, the employees fled toward their cars.

The Orange Park-native was able to fix the gun just in time to give chase to the escaping employees, shooting one on the backside.

“Thank you Jesus for being with me today,” the victim, Dean Hagins Jr., wrote on his Facebook page Monday evening. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is recovering.

No other employees were hurt during the shooting, but Cameau was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot after he ran back into the building to watch the security cameras.

Clay County Undersheriff Craig Aldrich said at a press conference, “A tragedy was averted today.”

Aside from prior arrests for DUI and driving without a license, Cameau had no record, and police said they’re not yet sure what his motive was.
