The New Republic Mistakes Rihanna for 'Jay Z's Wife'
Jay Z and Beyoncé are often considered hip hop's first and most well-known couple, but that doesn't seem to be common knowledge for everyone, as liberal periodical The New Republic mistook Rihanna for Queen Bey.
In an article posted to their website criticizing Hov's latest business venture, TIDAL, The New Republic staff confused the two pop stars. In the first paragraph of the piece, the writer went down a list of the stars who took the stage at the new streaming service's press conference and originally wrote, "his [Jay Z's] wife Rihanna," before modifying the article.
At the bottom of the post, the mistake is acknowledged with a note reading, "This piece originally listed Jay Z's wife as Rihanna. His wife is Beyoncé."
As a follow-up, the website, which has been reporting on politics and culture for 100 years, tweeted out a dry apology, "Our bad."
Jay Z and Beyoncé have been together for approximately 12 years now and have been married for seven.
