Wendy Raquel Robinson looks soft and sweet on the cover of the next digital edition of Be magazine in a rose-colored pastel dress, dewy makeup and drop earrings, but inside the actress strikes a sassier pose in a wine-colored top while sitting in dark pants and bolder makeup.
The contrasting feel almost mirrors the distinct differences in the TV characters she’s most noted for playing — the fun loving Principal Grier on The Steve Harvey Show and the firecracker Tasha Mack on BET’s The Game. The actress spoke about both roles and how each motivated her to sharpen her craft in an exclusive interview with BE.
"I watched Steve Harvey work so hard, from getting up at 4 a.m. for the radio show, then he'd come to the set and we'd do the rehearsals and the shooting, and then him and Cedric [the Entertainer] would pop out after taping and would fly out and do the Kings of Comedy,” she said. “I was like WOW! It just made me feel like maybe I wasn't working hard enough...."
These days Robinson is hard at work on The Game where she got a whole new lesson in stepping her game up.
"Bringing The Game back was really humbling, but at the same time it was an added pressure. It's like whoa, with the fans, we can't be bringing no BS, we gotta bring it and bring it tight each and every week. So it really elevated the playing field and The Game literally...because that don't happen! I don't know of another show that that has really happened to by viewer's choice gets canceled and picked back up and have a greater life than it did before."
