Ex-NBA and BIG3 basketball player Andre Emmett was killed in Dallas early Monday (September 23rd) morning.
More details regarding his death have emerged in the last few days.
The Dallas Police have obtained video of Emmett’s shooting captured by two Ring Doorbell camera systems near the scene.
Several news outlets have released the video as well. This is courtesy of CBS Dallas-Fort Worth.
The video is disturbing and shows Emmett sitting in his Range Rover with the door open in the driveway of his home. He appears to be looking at his phone when two men approach the vehicle.
One man with a gun pulls Emmett out of the car. Emmett moves towards the back of the vehicle and is then seen running away on the other side down the block.
The two men are chasing Emmett and one of the assailants clearly has a gun and begins to open fire.
A witness says the two suspects were seen leaving the scene in a white Chrysler 300.
Police are hopeful this video footage will help in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
Emmett is being mourned by his family and the basketball community.
He played collegiately at Texas Tech from 2000-04. Emmett was then selected #35 overall by the Seattle Supersonics in the 2004 NBA draft.
He bounced between the NBA and its developmental league as well as overseas for several years.
He was a star player for 3’s Company of Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league the past two seasons.
Emmett recently created the Dreams Really Exist Foundation, a charity with the mission of empowering youth with resources needed to thrive, and was a father.
