Gabrielle Union shocked TF out of everyone when she announced she and Dwyane Wade had a baby girl via surrogacy, so how’s motherhood going for her? While we picture the 46-year-old actress singing her baby girl to sleep with her notorious Clovers cheer from Bring It On, we’re sure she’s the real deal. And from what we see on social media, she is!
In Baby Kaavia James' first cover story with Parents Magazine, Gabrielle gave an update on life now that Kaavia has entered the Wade family's lives. "We enjoy every moment," Gabrielle says. "But days fly by in a blur of life. It’s like watching a clip in fast-forward. I’m like, ‘No, I’m still in it!’"
But things were not always that easy when it came to the Wade family's "shady baby."
"Kaavia went through a phase of not napping. I was like, ‘When do I shower or pee or live?’ So I had to get a little comfortable with her crying, which I had not been. And then I took the quickest shower of all time!”
Though she may not have everything on lock when it comes to swaddling or setting up a car seat, Gabrielle says her time as a stepmom has given her perspective on parenting.
"An upside of being 46 and having been a stepparent is I give myself permission to be human. When I need a minute to return emails or cry or mindlessly scroll social media, I’ll take it. I’m not trying to be a perfect parent."
Gabrielle definitely has a teammate and husband all wrapped into one with Dwyane, who took two weeks of paternity leave when Kaavia first arrived. She says that, "Dwyane is like a stage mom. He’s very hands-on. When he’s in Miami and we’re in Los Angeles, he wants to know everything, from her poops to what outfit she’s wearing."
Gabrielle and Dwyane already seem to be setting Kaavia up for greatness and enjoying the life of being new parents!

Gabrielle Union is the latest celebrity to get in on the viral “Fruit Snack Challenge.”
The actress recently shared a cute Instagram video of her 1-year-old daughter Kaavia James being put to the challenge, which tests kids’ patience, and let’s just say the toddler ain’t having it!
Instead of fruit snacks, Gabrielle enticed Kaavia with Bitsy’s Brain Food since it’s one of her favorite treats. However, the challenge hilariously backfired as quickly as it started. In the clip, Gabby sits her adorable daughter in a chair and explains the rules. “Wait until mommy comes back,” she said. Welp, baby Kaav wasn’t having it. She quickly jumped up to grab her snacks before Gabrielle even had a chance to leave the room.
Some might say it was an epic fail, but she’s only a year old. And you can’t blame a girl for knowing exactly what she wants!
