Jussie Smollett's 'Gay Tupac' Moniker Has The Internet Divided
The verdict is officially in for Tuesday (March 26), and all 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct against Empire star Jussie Smollett have been dropped from the Cook County State’s Attorney, according to CNN.
Reports further hold that the judge granted him a nolle pros—the equivalent to a dropping of all charges—in the decision after a lengthy battle against the Chicago police force, who accused him of staging the highly-publicized and alleged hate crime attack. If you’ll recall from the January incident, Smollett emerged from the controversy with a public statement from live onstage. He asserted that he fought the men back who he alleged that two men in “Make America Great Again” hats physically assaulted and poured bleach on him while hurling homophobic, racist slurs during the ambush. Smollett assured that he didn’t go out with a fight, though, and dubbed himself “the gay Tupac” in his valiant reemergence to the public following the ordeal.
In light of the verdict, Smollett's most devout fans are championing him for the legal victory and his brave stance against the Chicago legal force. But it appears that not everyone is comfortable with such a bold moniker he chose while doing so, nor its connection to the late West Coast rap legend:
