TLC Takes Over VH1's Super Bowl Blitz
TLC led the latest stop on VH1's Super Bowl Blitz concert series last night. Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas" lit up New York City's Beacon Theater Thursday (Jan. 30), introduced by a dance team and beat-boxing legend Dougie E. Fresh.
T-Boz and Chilli opened with "Aint Too Proud to Beg," and kept the energy up, singing and dancing their way through the show, which was broadcast online and via the cable network. Their set list featured classics like "Creep," "No Scrubs," "Hat to the Back," "Unpretty" and a seductive chair-performance of "Red Light Special."
They toned down the sex appeal for a touching rendition of "Waterfalls" featuring a ballerina clad in all white during the verse of deceased member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. The somber dance spot morphed into a celebratory moment as the crowd stood to their feet, and the Boys Choir of Harlem joined T-Boz and Chili on stage.
The Atlanta singers closed out the night with "Meant to Be" from their compilation album 20, released last year.
TLC's performance is one of six Super Bowl Blitz concerts held across New York and New Jersey, all leading up to Sunday's big game. J. Cole and Janelle Monáe were among the week's other performers, while singer Gavin Degraw will wrap up the week-long traveling concert series in New Jersey Saturday (Feb. 1) night.
