Moments after it was announced that Jussie Smollett was arrested for allegedly staging his own hate crime attack, several celebrities and social activists took to social media to voice their opinions over the hectic morning's events.

One of the famous faces who chose to speak out was Tyler Perry, who said that, while speaking with the Empire star directly, he learned that he is sticking to his initial claim that he is telling the truth.

In response to news that Smollett now faces a felony charge of disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report, Perry took to Instagram to share his thoughts after the Chicago PD's explosive press conference.

"How I wish that the disappearance of Terrance Williams and Felipe Santos could get half as much attention as this Jussie Smollett thing," he wrote, referencing two men who vanished after allegedly being picked up by a Florida sheriff's deputy 15 years ago.

The famed director and producer then expounded on his private conversation with the now indicted actor.

"I have personally spoken to Jussie, and he is adamant that he's telling the truth," he continued. "Also, everyone that I know who knows him says that he is not the kind of person who would make up such a horrible and awful thing. Yet the evidence seems to state otherwise. I'm lost for words."

Continuing to echo those sentiments of disbelief shared by several of those who have supported Smollett's initial claims from the jump, Perry admitted that the actor's alleged actions are inexcusable, but reassured his fans that he continues to keep him in his prayers.

"To stroke fears and raise racial tensions is wrong in every situation on ALL SIDES!" he added. "Yet my prayers are still with him and his family and our Nation. CAN WE PLEASE STOP THE HATE!"
