Eric Holder, Nipsey Hussle’s Alleged Killer, Will Likely Go To Trial In Late March Or April

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge addressed details for the high-profile murder trial.

A trial date has reportedly been set for Eric Holder, the man accused of shooting and killing Nipsey Hussle. The revered rap artist and community altruist, born Ermias Asghedom, was slain in front of his Marathon clothing store in Los Angeles on March 31, 2019. Holder was arrested two days later in connection to his murder.

  • Holder appeared in court on Wednesday (Feb. 19) where Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Robert Perry informed him that he expects Holder’s trial to begin in March and conclude by April 14, according to the New York Daily News. The trial is expected to take a course over a span of two weeks. However, Judge Perry suggested the trial could possibly start as early as late March during the hearing, according to the publication. He noted that the court may need more time to deliberate given the nature of Holder’s case.

  • “Mr. Holder, as you know, this is an important case and a serious case. These cases take time to get ready for trial. You have the right to a speedy trial,” Perry addressed Holder directly. The report adds that Holder responded with a simple, “Yeah,” when asked whether it was OK for him to return on March 18 to begin the trial within 30 days.

  • This latest update comes after Holder's motion to have his two attempted murder charges dropped was denied. He has continued to plead not guilty to the six charges that have been brought against him, which includes murder, two counts of assault with a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. If convicted, Holder faces up to a maximum of a lifetime sentence in prison.
