One Of Ariana Grande's Newest Songs Is Another Ode To Mac Miller...

"My heart is in pieces..."

Pittsburgh legend, Mac Miller’s untimely death shook his fans, industry comrades, and close loved ones to the core, back in September. The pure spirit had a tragic battle with substance abuse for years, which ultimately led to him and his pop songstress then-girlfriend, Ariana Grande going their separate ways. The “Honeymoon Avenue” songbird was engaged to SNL comedian, Pete Davidson, at the time of Mac’s death, but it was evident she still loved her ex-beau dearly.

Her initial statement was a simple black-and-white photo of him looking up at her. Ari’s second post was an adorable yet bittersweet video captioned, “i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. [...]  we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. Rest.” Ironically, in the video, Mac wore a black hoodie that read, “everything will be okay.”

Not long after, she broke off her engagement and continued to heal her heartbreak as best as she could. The singer posted-and-deleted more videos and even got some new ink, all in honor of the Divine Feminine rapper. Unfortunately, many felt Ari was “milking” his death, but she promptly checked every single person spewing that hateful rhetoric.

  • At the stroke of midnight, the singer debuted her highly-anticipated fifth album and first release P.M. (post-Mac).

Her most vulnerable project to-date, thank u, next is a project dedicated to healing, grieving and loving yourself (most of all) after loss. As the album became to make its rounds online, her fanbase became to theorize. Back in January, when the tracklist dropped, the 25-year-old was bombared with questions. Thankfully, she answered a few and in not so many words, Ari explained the premise behind one of the songs, “ghostin.”

  • Listening to the track, its melody could be a slowed-down version of Mac's "2009," off his Grammy-nominated final album, Swimming. Fans also compared a few lines to his Ari-inspired tune, "Cinderella." He penned, "you in my dreams, that's why I sleep all the time" while Ariana cried out, "he just comes to visit me, when I'm dreaming every now and then."

Aside from this, thematically, her fanbase believed Ari was "ghosting" Pete because she was grieving Mac's loss.

  • The internet wept as all these details were unearthed...

  • This isn't the first song from Ariana's latest album that fans felt was a tribute to the Swimming emcee. Originally, a sentimental ballad entitled "reMeMber" was set to be the last track on the LP, but the day before the album's deadline, she swapped it out for "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored," a bop many believed was about her ex-boyfriend, Big Sean.

While we'd love to bawl our hearts out to the ballad, we completely understand the need to keep some things private...
