Adidas Confirms Deal With Kanye West

Yeezy goes with Nike’s top competitor after royalties deal goes south.

Kanye West has promised to become “the Tupac of Product” and “bigger than Walmart” and it looks like he’s on his way to silencing his critics.
Just days after ‘Ye trashed Nike and alluded to a new Adidas sneaker deal in a radio interview, Adidas has confirmed a new partnership with the rapper, releasing the following statement:
"For 2014, we welcome to the Adidas family one of the most influential cultural icons of this generation, Kanye West. Well known for breaking boundaries across music, film and design and partnering with our history in street wear culture and leading innovations in sport, we look forward to creating a new chapter. Details to follow."
Last week, Yeezy revealed on Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show that Nike refused to pay him royalties on his popular Air Yeezy line of sneakers because he isn’t a professional athlete. “The old me, without a daughter, would have taken the Nike deal because I just love Nikes so much. But the new me, with a daughter, takes the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family,” he said.
The New York Post’s Page Six reports that West’s Adidas deal is worth $10 million, and that's not counting his cut of future royalties. Definitely not a bad way to kick off the New Year.
