South Carolina Dad Receives Life Sentence For Murdering 5-Year-Old Son

He was found beaten and unresponsive in his father’s home in early 2019.

A jury has found a South Carolina man guilty of beating and murdering his 5-year-old son, a conviction which will land him in prison for the rest of his life.

PEOPLE reports that a news release from the South Carolina Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Officer accuses Michael Gamble of beating his son to death.

On January 22, 2019, EMS was reportedly called to Gamble’s Columbia home, where they found 5-year-old Jaiden Hammond unresponsive and “showing signs of rigor,” according to the release.

Authorities say the little boy’s body was covered with bruises. On the day he passed away, Gamble’s girlfriend told police she heard him beating Jaiden with a belt “for about 10 minutes because he had been acting up on the bus the previous day."

An autopsy revealed that Jaiden suffered from multiple subdural hematomas – bleeding between the skill and surface of the brain. Additionally, he had other brain injuries.

"Further investigation revealed video clips that Mr. Gamble had taken of his son where Jaiden indicated he was going to call 911 on his father for beating him," the news release continued, according to PEOPLE. "In response, the Defendant coached his son on what to say if anyone asked if he was beaten at his house."

Gamble’s life sentence also states that he will never be eligible for parole.
