Hip Hop Awards 2022: See How Doja Cat Became the Industry Favorite Hip Hop Artist

The multi-talented star was sought after by several of hip hop’s most prominent acts

Following her viral claim to fame in 2018, Doja Cat quickly became the go-to female emcee if artists wanted that wow factor on their record. Then, she began appearing on tracks with major acts, including Ariana Grande City Girls, SZA, and more. Doja held her own on the songs listed below and even sometimes stole the show. Ahead of the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, where she earned herself a nomination for “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” check the guest verses that made her music industry’s favorite new hip hop artist.

  • Ariana Grande — “Motives”

“Motives” is one of several notable tracks from singer-songwriter Ariana Grande’s Grammy Award-nominated project Positions. The dynamic duo wrote the dance-pop-inspired song alongside wordsmith Victoria Monét, Nija Charles, Jeremy McIntyre, Steven Franks, and its producers Murda Beatz and Tommy Brown. Ariana questions her partner’s intentions, while Doja cat raps about demanding respect.

  • City Girls — ‘P**sy Talk’

Doja may have arguably had the best verse on the 2020 female, sex-positive anthem. Her delivery is sharp as she swerves between flows. The track was produced by Southside and is featured on the Miami duo’s album ‘City On Lock.’ The music found them rapping on several sets, including an office and jungle.

  • French Montana & Doja Cat “Handstand” feat. Saweetie

French Montana’s “Handstand” was the fourth single from  French Montana’s fourth studio album, They Got Amnesia, released in 2021. It features an interpolation of Big Pun's 2000 single "It's So Hard” and marked the first collaboration between French and Doja Cat. However, the latter appeared on another record called “Best Friend” with the song’s other featured artist Saweetie. It peaked at no. 33 on the US R&B

  • Chloe X Halle — “Do It” (Remix ) feat. Doja , City Girls, & Latto

Following the successful release of their smash single “Do It,” Sister Chloe and Halle Bailey tapped Doja for its follow-up remix. She starts the song fitting perfectly as she rips and runs through the beat before handing it off to Chloe. The song also received a verse from Latto and the City Girls.

  • Ariana Grande “34 +25 (Remix)” feat. Doja, Megan Thee Stallion.

Like the City Girls, when it comes to Doja, Ariana is a repeat offender. She enlisted the emcee once more for a remix to her hit “34 +35.” The track also featured a verse from Megan Thee stallion. The remix marked the highest-charting Hot 100 hit by three or more female soloists since “Lady Marmalade'' by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and P!nk topped the charts in 2001.
