Megan Thee Stallion Says She Felt ‘Betrayed’ By All Of Her Friends After Shooting Incident With Tory Lanez
Megan Thee Stallion said that she left “shocked” and “very scared” following the shooting incident.
After the release of her first-ever collaboration with Cardi B, “WAP,” the Houston rapper hopped on Instagram Live to celebrate her past stellar week. On top of her collaboration with Cardi, Megan appeared on the cover of Variety’s 2020 Power of Young Hollywood issue and unveiled her new partnership with beauty conglomerate Revlon.
On the livestream, Megan was chatting and answering questions from her fans about working with Cardi and shooting the music video for “WAP” when someone asked her how she felt after being shot.
“I felt like, really crazy. I felt like, ‘why did I get shot? What did I do?’ It was insane. The s**t was crazy,” the 25-year-old shared about the July 12 incident. “”And I feel like some people think that it's funny and it's a joke, and I feel like some people think that they're saying it to get to me. But I'm not ashamed of who I am or what I've been through.”
She reiterated that she’s not afraid to speak the truth. Megan also opened up about how she’s been faring emotionally since the tragic event, saying “I felt betrayed by all my friends. I felt very shocked [and] very scared.”
Nonetheless, the “Hot Girl Summer” rapper said she is not the type of person to let negative situations shake her spirit.
“I don't like to be victimized,” she said. “I like to be upbeat. I like to be happy because of where I came from, who I’ve been around and the things I’ve actually seen and been through. I feel like I always have to be a light...I always want people to know pain does not last forever and bad times don’t last forever. Just because you go through something bad doesn't mean that’s the time you're going to be in forever and just because someone wants to make you feel bad doesn't mean that you have to give into the emotions people want you to feel.”
She ended her sentiments on the matter by sharing a life lesson she learned from her late grandmother.
“My grandma always told me don’t ever let nobody steal your joy, so that’s the type of person I am, “she said. “I’m never gonna let nobody steal my joy.”
Megan Thee Stallion has a lot to look forward to. This week, in her Variety profile, she shared that she’s hoping to release her debut full-length album by the end of this summer. The 25-year-old revealed that the project will come embedded with commentary addressing the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I feel like everything that’s going on right now, if it hasn’t moved you to speak out or try to make some type of difference, then something might be slightly wrong with you,” she said. “Even though I haven’t already come out with a song with that messaging, I definitely plan on it.”
Megan was reportedly shot in both of her feet by fellow rapper Tory Lanez, who was arrested early Sunday morning on July 12 by the Los Angeles Police Department. He was charged with carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and booked into the Hollywood jail.
According to jail records, Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, posted a $35,000 bond and was released just hours later. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 13.Hear Megan Thee Stallion’s full thoughts below around the 39-minute mark.
