Donald Trump just tried to pull a fast one on English royalty and the American press all at once.
Just ahead of his visit to the United Kingdom to meet the queen and members of the royal family, Trump referred to American-born Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle as “nasty.”
Trump was asked in an interview with British tabloid The Sun about Markle’s 2016 comments that she’d move to Canada if he was elected in November of that year.
“I didn’t know that,” Trump replied. “What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
The comments made by Markle were well before she married Prince Harry and moved to the U.K. Trump is now denying he made such a comment, tweeting this morning (June 2), “I never called Meghan Markle ‘nasty.’ Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold! Will @CNN, @nytimes and others apologize? Doubt it!”
Audio from the interview was subsequently released and promoted, ironically from a Twitter account that supports the president. See below.
Here the Sun interview audio, the transcript & your “warroom” cult team all publishing you saying “No, I didn’t know that she was nasty”.— Eric Foster (@efoster_eric) June 2, 2019
Are you going to apologize to CNN & the NY Times for lying on them? You said it! #TrumpCalledMeghanMarkleNasty https://t.co/5sxRufkgnR pic.twitter.com/NCFw9gYnYm
Here in the real world, however, it clearly and certainly relays the exact quote included in The Sun. Here is the comment at the 1:00 minute mark.
Twitter had a field day, demanding Trump apologize.
He’s forgetting what he said just a few days earlier.— Melissa Jo Peltier (@MelissaJPeltier) June 2, 2019
Dementia getting worse.
He needs an intervention, like Pelosi said.
It’s recorded. This is from an account that supports you 😆 https://t.co/xh3iyp4vAG— LiA (@LibsInAmerica) June 2, 2019
Seriously Trump. You need to have one of your handlers sit you down and play the audio where you said “No I didn’t know she was nasty”. This was not FAKE News it came directly out of your mouth. Your the one that needs to apologize. #MeganMarkle @realDonaldTrump @FoxNews https://t.co/OIu3YYifnf— Percy (@WheresPercy) June 2, 2019
Trump calling Duchess Meghan Markle "nasty" for calling him a misogynist just completely proved her point.— Amee Vanderpool (@girlsreallyrule) June 1, 2019
Trump called Meghan Markle “nasty” right before his upcoming travel to the UK. This coming from the same disgusting dude who also said he “could have” had sex with Princess Diana, only if she passed an HIV test. This was only months after she died. Trump is a gross disgrace.— Scott Dworkin (@funder) June 1, 2019
Once again, Donald Trump upends a civil joining of nations with comments before the meetings even take place. Trump is not scheduled to meet Meghan because she is on maternity leave, but Prince Harry is on his scheduled. We’ll see how that goes.
