Who’s The G.O.A.T. Rap Crew? Here's A Recap Of Round 3
In recognition of hip hop’s 50th anniversary, BET Digital, in partnership with Ambrosia For Heads, is celebrating the culture by hosting a bracket-style competition that allows you to determine hip hop’s greatest crew.
Rather than having “experts” tell you who is the greatest of all time, this is your opportunity to collectively make that decision. After giving the opportunity to any and all fans to provide feedback on which crews should be included, 32 collectives from different regions, styles, and generations have been selected—all vying for that #1 spot. When the final battle is over and the last vote is cast, you will have determined who is your Greatest Rap Crew of All Time.
The Greatest Rap Crew of All Time launched with 32 collectives. After an exciting Round 3, the competition is officially down to FOUR contending crews. The winners for each region have been determined.
In this celebration of hip hop and all of its talented crews, your vote decides the winner, so VOTE TODAY for your all-time favorite.
The East Coast was decided in a matchup between Wu-Tang Clan and Ruff Ryders. This region’s matchups have been the first throughout the tournament. Wu ultimately bested the double-R crew. After years of working together, including collaborative side projects, it cemented a Wu-Tang win in the East. The Clan has now defeated the Ruff Ryders, the Juice Crew, and Dreamville—victories that represent multiple generations and styles.
In the Midwest bracket, G.O.O.D. Music defeated Hypnotize Minds. Kanye West’s collective bested Three 6 Mafia and their many affiliates in this regional ranking. G.O.O.D. takes the Midwest, boasting acts like Big Sean, Common, Kid Cudi, GLC, and others—along with talent from the coasts, including Pusha-T, CyHi The Prynce, and 2 Chainz.
Wu-Tang and G.O.O.D. now meet after over a decade of crew members working together on major releases including “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” “Cruel Summer,” and “The Man With The Iron Fists soundtrack.” Kanye and company face an influential RZA and squad to decide who reaches the championship round.
In the West, the Death Row Family defeated TDE in a matchup that found two oft-compared crews facing off. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Tha Dogg Pound family, and others proved to be the best in the West. Before TDE, they defeated N.W.A. & The Possé and the Hieroglyphics crew.
In the Dirty South, YMCMB defeated the So So Def to win the region. The Young Money Cash Money Billionaires won previous matchups against the No Limit Soldiers and Grand Hustle to comfortably win their region.
Death Row Family now meets YMCMB in a semi-final that finds crews whose artists have collaborated over the years, including Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne, as well as earlier work involving Dr. Dre, Mack 10, Juvenile, and others. Cash Money has called Death Row an influence, and now these two crews clash to decide which reaches the championship round.
Round 4 is next, and it will decide the final round matchup and get this competition just a step away from determining the ultimate champion crew.
